Manual Extract: Friction Plate

The friction plate should be replaced if there is less than 0.24 mm (0.01 O inch) of friction material above the rivet heads. If the friction plate has been contaminated with oil, it can be cleaned with a suitable cleaning solvent and used again.
IMPORTANT: Friction plate pads which turn blue in color do not indicate excessive heat.
Friction plate pads which show signs of flaking or cracking between the rivets do not need to be replaced as this is a normal condition.

Pressure Plate
Inspect the face of the pressure plate for grooves.

A pressure plate with grooves less than 0.64 mm (0.025 inch) can be used again even when a new friction plate is installed, a pressure plate with grooves greater than 0.64 mm (0.025 inch) must be replaced.
Inspect the pressure plate for flatness.
If the pressure plate has a flatness error of more than 0.152 mm (0.006 inch) it must be replaced.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT reface a pressure plate.
