Each tractor is equipped with an in-line, four-cycle, liquid-cooled, overhead valve diesel engine. The Models 1300, 1500, and 1700 tractors have a two cylinder engine while the largest of the tractors the Model 1900 – has a three-cylinder engine. The rated horsepower of the engines increase as the tractor size increases; with the Model 1500 being the lowest and the 1900 being the highest. The engine which is being used in a particular tractor model can be identified by a code number cast into the side of the cylinder block.

All Parts are subdivided into Chapters which convey information on general operating principles, detailed inspection and overhaul procedures and, where applicable, specifics on troubleshooting, special tools and specifications of the Ford 1200, 1300, 1500, 1700, 1900. Any reference in this manual to right, left, rear, front, top or bottom is as viewed from the operator’s seat.
