This publication is intended to provide technicians with a working knowledge of the new ASET AI/AMI diesel engines with internal exhaust gas recirculation. MACK offers a similar engine to
AI/AMI which is more suited to linehaul applications called the AC. The AC engine is a cooled exhaust gas recirculation engine. For service and overhaul procedures for the AC engine, refer to the 5-111 ASET AC Engine Service Manual. ASET is an acronym meaning Application Specific Engine Technology.
The ASET AI/AMI engine design is based on the E-Tech left-side redesign (LSR) with its plate-type oil cooler and oil filter mounting  arrangement. In addition, a new Centri-Max
ULTRA or ULTRA PLUS centrifugal oil filter assembly having a redesigned cover housing with an integral oil fill tube, is incorporated in the design. The rear left-side mounting location of the engine electronic control unit (EECU) on the one-piece inlet manifold is retained for the engine
